It Is Tough Being Me…

Why this title?

I believe we live in an age when we’re all more aware of how hard it is to be ourselves. By all means, I am not saying that no generation before us has suffered through similar profound identity struggles, but we are the first generation to be drowning in a wave of available content that deepens confusion about identity, standards, and achievements. All the content we’re scrolling through daily, silently comparing ourselves, is confusing. While our thumbs are doing the outside work, our minds are running a constant comparison.

I (and perhaps you, too) can feel perfectly fine about myself, my life, my business, health, and relationships, and after 15 minutes, my mind is tired. Tired of wondering whether I am thin enough, successful enough, loved enough, independent enough? Should I start Asian walking or Thai pilates? Is there a difference? Should I sign up for an AI course? Should I break free from a cortisol trap as my body has been merely surviving for too long? If your feed looks in any way like mine, I am sure you can even put the brand names to these generic questions.

It sometimes seems (an intentionally understatement, as I don’t want to step on any brand’s toes and get sued. Heck, I can’t afford that kind of drama!) as if so much of the content we’re exposed to today is designed to make us feel bad about ourselves. It is assumed that we’re insufficient, not enough the way we are. To be loved, to be accepted, to be successful (all based on someone else’s standards) requires us to do more, to change.

This notion of devaluing our core existence was most likely (another understatement) intentional, for nobody will invest money, subscribe, or buy the specially discounted deal today if they could see themselves for who they truly are.

It is tough being me…it is tough being you (I guess, but I can only speak for myself).

So, what is this blog? It is rebellion. Those who know me well will confirm that rebellion is in my blueprint. I grew up with a mom (she was a lovely lady in her unique way) who often reminded me that I’d been destined to be a contrarian pre-birth. The fact that I was a bridge baby and had to be delivered via C-section sparked that idea.

So, I am being difficult. I am being difficult because I don’t want to follow the norm of running advertising campaigns on three or four different social media platforms. I am difficult because I laugh at those posts that tell you to stop scrolling while offering you exactly what they’re warning against. Note that it is a sad, disturbing laugh, as it ain’t funny at all.

I have a voice, a ministry, and a business; all three (in no particular order) have the potential to help others and have often done so in the past.

All three are making it even tougher to be me at times. But I know if we put my tough and your tough together… we might very well end up with something spectacular.

Who knows? We can only try. I am not going to promise complete transformation in 28 days (I am not going to lie).

But I promise you’ll have to read, and I’ll limit what I want to say to a max of 700 words. I also promise that whether you like it or not, God will be in it, for without Him, I am nothing, and so are you, you beautiful human being.

Remember, you are fearfully and wonderfully made! Now, go live life like the champion you are!
